Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Found Guilty of Contempt, Fined Five Million Naira

A Federal High Court in Abuja has found Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, guilty of contempt.

Justice Binta Nyako delivered the ruling today in a case linked to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s challenge against her suspension from the Senate.

The contempt proceedings were initiated by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who accused the senator of violating a court order by making a satirical Facebook post on April 27.

According to Akpabio, the post breached an earlier order which barred all parties from making public comments or social media posts related to the case.

As punishment, the senator was ordered to publish an apology in two national newspapers and on her Facebook page within seven days, and she was also fined five million naira.
