Labour Party Deputy Leader Urges Obi to Stay, Rebuild Party

The Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, has urged the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to ignore calls to leave the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Lagos today, Olorunfemi, who was also the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2024 Ondo governorship election, advised Obi to focus instead on rebuilding and restoring peace within the party.

While acknowledging that Obi has the right to associate with any political party, Olorunfemi warned him to be cautious of what he described as dangerous advances.

He added that leaving the Labour Party could raise questions about Obi’s commitment to its ideology.

Olorunfemi stressed that Obi should work to resolve internal crises and rebuild the platform that supported him during the last election, warning that defecting could make him appear opportunistic.
